CUMT library is a time-honored university library, with mining documents as the featured collection, and science and engineering documents as its major collection. It also boasts of a grand collection of documents on disciplines of literature, management, economics, and law. It is a member of the libraries in China Academic Library and Information System (CALIS), the document and information center of North Jiangsu Province in Jiangsu Academic Library and Information System (JALIS) , the only sci-tech novelty retrieval workstation of China Ministry of Education in North Jiangsu Province, and the only agent of sci-tech novelty retrieval for Coal Information Research Institute.

The Library of CUMT grew out of Library of Jiaozuo School of Railroad and Mines, which was established in 1909. In 1951, the library was renamed Library of China Institute of Mining and Technology (CIMT). In 1952, with a national readjustment of higher education institutions, the mining engineering departments of Tsinghua University, Peiyang University and Tangshan Railroad Universities were merged into CIMT, whose documents on mining engineering were also moved along. Ever since the establishment of this library, it was moved along with the university from Jiaozuo, Tianjin, Beijing, Sichuan, and was finally settled in Xuzhou in June of 1978, and renamed as Library of CUMT in April of 1988.

The library has built up a complete and systematic information safeguarding framework.

In recent years, CUMT library has intergraded information resources with universities and institutes of the same kind, conducted a digital development for mining engineering documents, and developed such specialized databases as Digital Library of Mining Engineering, Mining Engineering Database, and Low Carbon and New Energy Database.
