School of Chemical Engineering has a long history of over half a century. In 1952, China College of Mining and Technology (Tianjin) established the major of mining processing. In 1960, Beijing College of Mining andTechnology established the department of comprehensive utility of coal, which changed its name to the department of comprehensive utility of coal of China College of Mining and Technology and again altered its name to the departmentof energy utilization and chemical engineering of China University of Mining and Technology in 1997.In June of 2000, it finally set its name to the School of Chemical Engineering of China University of Mining and Technology.
The School of Chemical Engineeringcurrently has a staff and faculty of 125 teachers and administrative members. Its full-time teachers include 38 professors and 37 associate professors, and among themare 2 academicians of Chinese Academy of Engineering, 39 doctoral supervisors, and 74 master’s supervisors. The school sets 6 undergraduate majors, 8 doctor’s degree programs, as well as 14 master’s degree programs, covering mineral processing engineering, chemical engineering and technology, energy chemical engineering, applied chemistry, bioengineering and process equipment & control engineering, biochemical engineering, industrial catalysis, physical chemistry, chemical process equipment, inorganic chemistry, analytical chemistry, organic chemistry, and polymer chemistry and physics, etc. At present, the school has one national key discipline (mineral processing engineering), two Jiangsu Provincial key disciplines (chemical technology and mineral materials), and one post-doctoral research station (mineral processing engineering). Currently, it has an enrollment of 2, 535, including 1,903 undergraduates and 632 postgraduates. All these students with good qualities and solid professional knowledge are well-received by employers and the society as a whole.
The School of Chemical Engineering has always been devoted itself to scientific research. As its capacity of basic research as well as scientific and technological innovation improves greatly, it has achieved a large number of high-level research findings. In recent 4 years, the School has presided over 8 national key programs, such as Project 973 and Project 863 as well as other projects at national, provincial and ministerial level, achieved 16 research rewards at national, provincial and ministerial level as well as 49 authorized patents, and published 150 SCI theses, 210 EI theses, 16 monographs and textbooks. Besides, it has newly set up a state- level scientificresearch innovation team which focuses on the research on theory and application on coal resources high-efficiency and clean processing and gets funded by National Natural Science Foundation.
The School has been equipped with a complete set of advanced teaching and research facilities, including a key laboratory of coal resources high-efficiency and clean processing under the administration of Ministry of Education, a national technology center of environmentally friendly clean coal and ecological rehabilitationin mining area, a specialized experimental center for School of Chemical Engineering, an experimental center of basic instructions of chemistry, an experimental center of basic instructions of bioengineering, a laboratory of mineral processing, and a laboratory of process engineering, a specialized laboratory of chemical engineering, a national technology research center of coal processing and purification engineering and a CUMT Clean Energy Research Institute based on School of Chemical Engineering.
