11th International Mine Ventilation Congress Held in Xi 'an

From September 16 to 18, the 11th International Mine Ventilation Congress, co-organized by China University of Mining and Technology (CUMT) and Xi 'an University of Science and Technology, was held in Xi 'an, Shaanxi province. More than 500 experts and scholars from over 30 countries attended the congress.

Persons attending the opening ceremony included academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (Zhou Shining, Zhang Tiegang, Cai Meifeng and Wang Shuangming), academician of the American Academy of Engineering (Raja V. Ramani), professor Frank von Glehn---- chairman of the executive committee of the International Mine Ventilation Congress, Liu Bo----party secretary of CUMT, Jiang Lin----president of Xi 'an University of Science and Technology, and government and industry representatives.

At the opening ceremony, secretary Liu Bo delivered a welcome speech and extended appreciation to fellow academicians and experts. She introduced basic information about CUMT, pointing out that coal is the main body of China's energy resources and ventilation is important to prevent and control disasters caused by coal gas, dust and high temperature. As the bellwether in coal field among universities in China, CUMT has made remarkable progress in energy and resources. Secretary Liu Bo sincerely invited all the experts and scholars to gather in CUMT to discuss the direction of the developments in the coal industry, so as to make new contributions for the world.

Academician Zhou Shining warmly welcomed the old and new friends from Mine ventilation and indicated that mine ventilation is the fundamental guarantee of safety production and miners' health and safety. To intellectualize and provide information about mine ventilation under new circumstances is the common goal of related industries in the future.

During the meeting, secretary Liu Bo met with professor Raja V. Ramani from the American Academy of Engineering, professor Duncan Chalmers from the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in Australia and professor Masahiro Inoue from Kyushu University in Japan. They held talks on how to conduct in-depth international cooperation and reached a number of consensuses on international cooperation and talent cultivation in the field of energy and resources. Zhou Fubao, director of the talent office of CUMT attended the meeting too.

The 4-year world conference on mine ventilation was held in China, the world's largest coal mining country, for the first time. More than 30 teachers from the CUMT and more than 20 international students from over 10 countries attended the conference. Experts at the conference shared the knowledge and progress achieved over the past four years in ventilation, mine environment, health and safety, energy efficiency, and management. In the end, they have jointly published excellent papers with Springer.
