The International College is a second-level school responsible for the educational administration of undergraduates who

go abroad to study, daily management of international students and their study in Chinese preparatory course program. It serves as a major window and platform for CUMT’s foreign exchanges and cooperation and an important unit for international talents cultivation. At present, it has enrolled more than 530 Chinese and foreign students.


The International College has already carried out extensive international cooperation in many aspects, including student joint cultivation and credit transfer system with over 20 foreign universities, such as University of Adelaide in Australia, University of Duisburg-Essen in Germany, University of Kentucky in America, University of Waterloo in Canada, University of Nottingham in UK, and Hanoi University of Geology and Mining in Vietnam. The study-abroad programs mainly comprise foreign cooperative education programs for undergraduates like civil engineering, building environments & energy application engineering and intercollegiate education exchange programs, including machinery design and automation, business, electrical engineering and automation, etc. The International College also provides international students studying in China with cultivation programs including professional development, preparatory education of Chinese, courses for undergraduates, postgraduates and doctoral students, etc.


The International College’s study-abroad programs mainly adopt the mode of “domestic and foreign joint cultivation in different phases”. After meeting the requirements of this cultivation plan, students can acquire two diplomas at the same time under the credit transfer system. The Degree Education Programs for international students mainly adopt the way of studying along with Chinese students, while Chinese preparatory courses for Non-degree Education Program adopt the mode of “small-class teaching and intensive instructions”, and provide intensive Chinese learning guidance for students. The International College possesses a galaxy of Chinese and foreign teachers and management team with excellent qualities, profound professional competence as well as international vision.



Adhering to the educational concept of “high starting point, emphasis on characteristics, and internationalization” and the aim to cultivate advanced specialized talents with international vision and global competitiveness, the International College has been striving hard to develop itself into a significant base for high-level education, international talents cultivation and international education cooperation and exchange as well as an important carrier of Chinese and foreign cultural communication and exchanges in China University of Mining and Technology.

The current situation of international students

By the end of 2013, nearly 170 international students from over 30 countries in Asia, Africa and Europe have been learning Chinese and studying for Bachelor, Master and Doctoral degrees in our university. From the perspective of education level, among the international students are on-the-job training students, preppies taking Chinese courses, undergraduates, postgraduates and doctoral candidates. From the perspective of students’ source of tuition fees, there are Chinese Government Scholarship students, enterprise scholarship students, source country scholarship students as well as self-supporting students. And from the angle of distribution of source countries, they mainly come from Asian countries represented by Vietnam, Mongolia, Laos and African countries represented by Mozambique and Comoros. These international students attending our university mainly study business administration, international trade, economics, mining engineering and other majors under disciplines of engineering, management science, economics, etc.
