CUMT held Sino-German Symposium ——“Green, Elastic, Inclusive - Solutions of Sustainable Urban Development "

On the afternoon of November 25th, CUMT held the Sino-German Symposium ——“Green, Elastic, Inclusive - Solutions of Sustainable Urban Development " in the lecture hall of the School of Architecture and Design. The Symposium was sponsored by Xuzhou Urban Planning Association; School of Architecture and Design, CUMT; German Leibniz Eco-City and Regional Development Research Institute; Building Energy Conservation and Construction Technology Collaborative Innovation Center, Jiangsu Province.


During the symposium, Kümper-Schlake, head of the German Federal Nature Reserve’s Green City project, gave a lecture entitled "Value and Orientation of Sino-Germany Green City Research". From the perspective of the political background and the policy framework of green city construction, he emphasized that the green city research should focus on the implementation of the project and economic influence.


Dr. Henry Wustemann, Technical University of Berlin, made a report on "The Economic Value of Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services in China and Germany". He pointed out that with the accelerated development of urbanization, the biological diversity of city and nature is the inherent requirement of realizing the sustainable development of green city. The green space distance setting and the evenness of green space distribution have a great influence on the development of urban economy in green city construction.


Professor Ralf-Uwe Syrbe, German Leibniz Eco-City and Regional Development Research Institute, made a report entitled "Means and Application of Sino-German Urban Ecological Space". In his opinion, different cities, different urban functions. Eco-city construction should be based on urban functions and urban structure. He stressed that when itis necessary, we can use legal means to ensure there are more green spaces in the city.

Dr. Grunewaid Karsten, German Leibniz Eco-City and Regional Development Research Institute, made a report on the subject of "Assessment of Ecosystem Services", and proposed the new concept of "eatable city". He thought that people can make full use of urban space to grow crops. It can provide us with a chance to close with nature.


Li Jinghua, director of Xuzhou Urban Planning Bureau, made a report entitled "Planning and Construction of Eco-city in the View of Ecological Civilization". Dr. Zhao Jingwei, School of Architecture and Design, CUMT, made a report entitled "the Application of LID Technology in American Cities". By analyzing the case of collecting rainwater in American urban system, he pointed out that the green city construction should pay attention to the effective application of LID technology. The symposium was presided over by Prof. Luo Pingjia, Dean of School of Architecture and Design, CUMT. Prof. Chang Jiang gave a brief summary of the symposium.


Cheng Yong, chairman of Xuzhou Urban Planning Association; Ji Xiang, vice president of the Jiangsu Vocational Institute of Architectural Technology; Prof. Jing Lu, Director of the School of Architecture and Design, CUMT; professional teachers, undergraduates and graduate students of CUMT participated in the symposium.
