School of Computer Science and Technology grew out of Major of Computer Application in 1978. In 1997, Major of Computer Application in School of Mechatronic Engineering, Major of Computer Software in Department of Mathematics and Mechanics and CUMT Computing Center were merged and reorganized into Department of Computer Science and Technology, on the basis of which, the School of Computer Science and Technology was established in 2002.

Major of Computer Science and Technology started in 1980; the major was first named Major of Computer Applications. Then it changed its name in 1985, as the Major of Computer and Applications. In 1993, Major of Computer Software was established. The two majors merged and reconstructed into Major of Computer Science and Technology in 1996 and started recruiting students in 1997.


Major of Electronic Information Science and Technology was established in 2000, and started recruiting students in 2001. Major of Information Security was established in 2004, and started recruiting students in 2005. Major of Network Engineering was established in 2007, and started recruiting students in 2008.


In 2012, Major of Computer Science and Technology and Major of Electronic Information Science and Technology were named Pilot Education and Training Programsof Excellence Engineer (Software category) Major Jiangsu Province.

 

Chronicle of Events of School of Computer Science and Technology

In 1995, Master of Computer Applications set up, approved by Academic Degree Commission of the State Council;

In 1997, Major of Computer Applications renamed Major of Computer Applications and Technology, and started recruiting students.

In 2006, Doctoral program of Computer Application Technology, Master program of First-level discipline of Computer Science and Technology approved. Master programs ofSecondary disciplines of Computer Software and Theory, and Computer Architecture approved.

In 2011, Doctoral program of First-level discipline of Computer Science and Technology approved.

In 2002, Engineering Master Programin the field of Computer Engineering Technology approved.

In 2009, Engineering Master Programin the field of Software Engineering approved.

In 2000, Right to grant title of associate professor obtained.

In 2004, Right to grant title of professor obtained.

In 2002, Construction of university key disciplines started. Discipline of Computer Application Technology was named one of University Key Disciplines in the 10th five year Plan. Fostering of Computer Software and Theory and Computer Architecture started.

In Jan 2008, Discipline of Computer Application Technology was approved to be one of University Key Disciplines in the 11th five year Plan.

In Dec 2008, all majors in Discipline of Computer Application Technology were wholly approved to be the University Key Disciplines in the 11th five year Plan.

In Aug 2012, Post-Doctor Working Station of Computer Science and Technology was approved by Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security (HRSS)

 

There are almost 2,100 students in this school, including 28 doctorate students, 287 postgraduates and 1,750 undergraduates. The school admits450 students annually. There are 120 teachers, including 10 professors and 44 associate professors.

Based on the disciplines of Computer Science and Technology, Communications and Information Systems, Testing Technology and Automation Devices, Safety Technology and Engineering (National Key Discipline), Power Electronics and Electric Drive


(National Key Discipline), Control Theory and Control Engineering, etc, the construction of Mine Digital Engineering Research Center under the Ministry of Education is to promote safe mining with Mine Digitalization. The Center has established three industry platforms of scientific and technological achievements, namely, Mine Information AccessingTechnology Platform, Mining and Network Technology Platform, Mining Intelligent Information Processing Technology Platform. The Center also has established the Industrial Control Network Technology Center, Software Analysis and Testing Center, and achievements transferring base. Cooperated with domestic mining enterprises, the Center also established several testing base, which were approved by Ministry of Education in 2010.

 

SCST Experiment Center is a teaching and scientific research base with an area of over 7,500and over 2,800 sets of computers and other teaching and scientific research instruments.CUMT-CAS Joint Laboratory of Intelligent Information Processing is set here. The Center co-funded the Industrial Control Network Laboratory, Lenovo Wireless Network Laboratory, and Smart NetworkLaboratory with SIEMENS, Lenovo and Start Group. Besides, the Center built a number of advanced, specialized, distinctive and innovative laboratories concerning computer-based teaching laboratory, industrial control networks, network and information security, information processing, network engineering and a Students Innovative Experimental Center, providing teachers and students a very good working and study environment.


SCST Experiment Center started in 1978, was accomplished in 2002, and was approved as Jiangsu Province Computer Teaching Experimental Demonstration Center in 2010. The Center arranges basic computer teaching course for all undergraduates in the university, and 4 majorsteaching for SCST undergraduates. Advanced equipments and teaching-studying systems provide students with an excellent experiment platform.


SCST pay attention to develop students’ virtues and creative consciousness in order to develop high-quality talents. Well-equippedresearch, teaching, studying and practice environment provide students with much basic theory learning and engineering practice, thus helped a lot in improving students experimental skills and creative capability. SCST attaches great importance to research training and extracurricular science and technology activities, makes rules and puts a certain number of expenses to guarantee the training and activities. Students actively participate in various training and activities, and each student participates in at least one of them every year. In recent years, SCST students have won dozen of awards in international and internal competitions in the fields of electronic design, robotics, mathematical modeling, programming design, software design, etc. Rates of students going for further study in famous universities are very high. And employment rate keeps 100% for consecutive years.


SCST establishes wide relations with international and internal distinguisheduniversities, like in United States, Britain, Australia, Hong Kong, Japan, Germany, etc. SCST not only sends young teachers abroad for further research work, but also invites scholars from those universities to give lectures to strengthen academic exchanges and improve academic levels.
