Basic Research of Large-scale Quality Improvement and Utilization of Low-quality Coal

Brief Introduction of the Project
Low-quality coal refers to the coal or coal products containing high ash, high sulfur and high water, which account for 40% of our country coal reserves. The utilization of these resources is of great strategic significance for energy continuous supply, and rapid economic sustainable development in China.
Aiming at large-scale development of low quality coal in China, the following three scientific questions are included in this project: (1) occurrence and chemical and physical effects of impurities such as minerals, sulfur, and water in the low-quality coal; (2) energy removal mechanism and interface control of impurities; (3) fluidization foundation and process dynamics during the upgrading of the low quality coal. Chemistry and physics of impurity components such as minerals, sulfur, water and other impurities in coal, and resulting removal response and interface control rule are studied. Steady flow state and non-equilibrium separation process for upgrading of the low quality coal are built. Efficient utilization way and the methods of upgraded coal based on the combustion are proposed. The theoretical system and technological breakthroughs for low quality coal are finally achieved. This project is to lay a solid scientific foundation for development of about 230 billion tons of lignite and high-ash coal, and for achievement of recycling scarce coking coal of about 30 million tons per year.
