The Discipline of Mechanical Engineering, based on mining machinery and equipment design and automation control as the dominant characteristic, is a first-level key discipline in Jiangsu Province, and a national key discipline to be built. It ranked 27th nation-wide. In this discipline team, there are 17 professors, 31 associate professors, including a member of Russian Academy of Engineering and a Chief Scientist of National 973 Program. One of them won the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars (NSFDYS), 2 won the Science & Technology Award for Chinese Youth, one is National Outstanding Young and Mid-Aged Expert, 2 selected in National New Century Talents Project5 selected in Program for New Century Excellent Talents in University of Ministry of Education and3 selected in 333 Program of Jiangsu Province. The discipline owns one Innovative Research Team in University of Ministry of Education, one Innovative Research Team in Universities of Jiangsu Province. There are some teaching & research platforms here like State Engineering Technology Cultivating Research Center, National R & D (Experimental) Center, Engineering Technology Research Center of Jiangsu Province and National Engineering Practice Education Center, etc.


Since 2010, the center has undertaken many projects such as one project and 2 sub-project of National 973 Program, and one project and 3 sub-project of National 863 Program, 23 projects of National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), published 326 papers which are included in SCI and EI, and carried off 2 second prizes of National Award of Technological Invention, 3 second prizes of National Prize for Progress in Science and Technology, one first prize of Technological Invention Award under Ministry of Education, one first prize and 2 second prizes of Science and Technology Progress Award of Ministry of Education.


By participating in organizing international conferences, inviting distinguished foreign scholars to come to visit and sending teacher to study abroad and other ways, the discipline has enhanced its international exchanges.
